When: 10/28/2026 · Where: Praia Vermelha, Rio de Janeiro – RJ
A ring was lost at Praia Vermelha in Rio de Janeiro. Joviera was worried and, after the loss, decided to call in a detectorist to help with the search. I arrived at the location and began the search with the metal detector, but the start was challenging. The area was full of trash, and I found bottle caps and seals that made it difficult to locate the object.
After some time, without success, I was almost out of hope. However, I decided to pass through the area one more time where the ring might be. It was then that, while sweeping the detector, I noticed a strong signal, with a reading between 16 and 17. This indicated that something was very close to the surface.
With my foot, I made a light excavation in the sand and, to my surprise, found the ring. The moment was one of relief and satisfaction, as I was able to help Joviera recover what she had lost. This experience reinforces the importance of acting quickly when losing an object in the sand or similar areas.
Anyone who has lost something in the region can call a detectorist, who can assist in the search, although there are no guarantees that the object will be found.

How to search for a lost ring in the sand?
In dry sand, the ring sinks a few centimeters in minutes; in wet sand, the tide moves it. The most efficient way is to scan with a metal detector, in strips, starting from the most likely point of loss. Read the full answer in the guide.
